Where am I? I am where my attention is.
Samadhi ... Dissolution of 'I' and 'Mine
Samadhi is defined as the inner tranquility experienced by a seeker, when the ray of awareness, emanating from the soul steadies itself in the infinite bliss and knowledge of the soul. In this meditative state when the mind is engrossed, absorbed and immersed within self, there is a dissolution of 'I' as well as 'Mineness' and a seeker, on experiencing his true self, identifies himself as a Soul. This is Samadhi Bhav. Only and only the soul exists in this state. Despite being surrounded on the outside by the transient worldly attachments, one is always detached. This Internal detachment of mind from passions and emotions, and renouncing worldly objects from within leads to cessation of all desires. He disassociates from all the peripheral, materialistic, mundane dilemmas and becomes entirely encapsulated within the unbounded, limitless, infinite treasures of the knowledge of Self. Samadhi means to dwell, reside in this everlasting, exhilarating ceaseless joy.
The ray of concentration that enables one to perform their tasks.
To know and observe is an intrinsic nature of the soul. The ray of concentration enables one to perform their tasks. 'This ray is called Upyog' in Jain terminology. ( Respected Philosopher Shri Gunvantbhai Barvadia)
Upyog means centering our intentness towards the goal.
'Upyog' is a characteristic of our Soul. The alertness, concentration, diligence, meditativeness of our consciousness is described as 'Upyog'. Objects illuminated by Sun's rays are self-evidently visible and discernible to us. Similarly, the serene, tranquil light of knowledge emanating from the Soul, which indiscriminately illuminates everything it perceives is known as 'Upyog'. The soul recognises only those objects on which this ray of focus attention steadies itself. This singularity of focus is Upyog.
Being focussed on Self while performing diverse tasks
Women-folk of the villages go to the river to fill their pots with water. While returning, they are cheerfully enjoying, jesting, clapping, ribbing each other all the way back home. Yet they are so judiciously focussed on the pots brimming with water, which are placed on their head, that not a droplet of water spills over.
Likewise, an acrobat is performing on a tightrope fixed high up in the air. He is encircled by onlookers, who have gathered below to watch his performance. His concentration is so well-developed that without getting distracted by the uproar and commotion created by an applauding audience, he executes his act unerringly.
Analogously, despite discharging our duties and being immersed in varied activities, our focus should remain converged either at our Lord's Feet or inwards towards our consciousness.
The ability to manifest the Self and NonSelf
The specific attribute which distinguishes the Soul from the other five substances of this universe is its unique power of knowing and illuminating Self as well as non-Self. All the five senses and mind are receivers of touch, taste, smell, colour and sound. The engrossed indulgence of Soul in these five senses results in the form of dualities of likes-dislikes, comfort-discomfort, yearning-apathy etc. This continuous perceiving, knowing and indulging through the medium of senses is a hindrance to self-realisation. To revel in the five senses and believing them to be mine is destructive ignorance.
Varte nij swabhavnu, anubhav laksh pratit,
Vrutti vahe nij bhavma, parmarthe samkit.
The Turning Around of 'upyog' is 'sadhana'
'Upyog' gets modified according to the disposition of mind, body and speech. Sadhana cannot happen merely by a change or improvement in the extraneous sphere. It happens only when the upyog turns inwards and pivots towards the soul. Indulgence of senses may be on multifarious spheres and levels but at any given moment, 'Upyog', singularly dwells only in one. Soul, being the Knower, acquires the knowledge of everything that 'Upyog' manifests on.
The miracles of Thought Power
It is only through thought power that one can transform a sansaric upyog to a soulbased upyog and then ultimately fine tune it so that it can strive towards identifying the soul.
A cleansed mind is capable of distinguishing between the right and wrong, the transient and the intransient. It can then identify the soul and attain immortality.
Param Pujya Bhaishree warmly welcomes us to pursue this divine inner migration of distinguishing oneself from the mind, body and speech by moving focus from the external form to formlessness and from outer attributes to inner awareness.
Come, let's get captivated
Introspective Bhaishree always encourages us to engage and drench our mind in spirituality. His divine soul keeps his mind incessantly engaged in good as well as pure thoughts and deeds.
Samadhi can be attained with considerable ease in the congruent presence of virtues like patience, tolerance, forgiveness and inner awareness. Thus, these form the foundation pillars of samadhi. We too can immerse ourselves in samadhi by beholding and being ceaselessly cognisant of the samadhi bhav of our living Lord, the ever blissful Param Pujya Bhaishree.
